DAMAGE ASSESSMENT, DAMAGE SEGREGATION & REPAIR/REPLACEMENT ANALYSIS

Once there is agreement as to what has and what has not been damaged after a loss incident, an assumption could be made that final resolution is just around the corner. But unless the building or the facility is completely destroyed, the process can be more complex than initially anticipated.

Many of the issues involve:

  • Identification of the undamaged as well as the damaged
  • Pre-existing damage
  • Items under warranty
  • Obsolescence
  • Nonexistent or added items
  • Repair versus replacement
  • Segregation of damages resulting from multiple incidents
  • Differentiation among multiple parties having an interest in the outcome
