Litigation Support
Microbiological Corrosion
Following an unexpected discharge from a pipe flange, an investigation was requested to identify the corrosion mechanism that had resulted in localized pitting of the piping. The holes in the piping system were caused by microbiologically influenced corrosion (MIC) that had thrived due to an ineffective fluid treatment process. Representative specimens of piping were examined to quantify the extent of damage to the entire pipeline. Scientific evidence of microbial attack and ineffective corrosion mitigation by the sub-contractor were cited during litigation.
